Sector 3 Beach and Dune Restoration Project 2010 - 2012 <br />Talking Points - FDEP Local Government Funding Assistance Program <br />Justification for Reimbursement Funding <br />FY 2014/2015 <br />• Project demonstrated how careful design and construction could result in no <br />measurable impacts to sea turtles and nearshore hardbottom. <br />o The biological and physical monitoring conducted to date indicate that as <br />designed the Project has not resulted in any measurable impacts to sea turtles <br />and nearshore hardbottom <br />• Through an inter -local government agreement the project was constructed in <br />cooperation between Indian River County and Sebastian Inlet District <br />o Demonstrating significant cost savings to taxpayers <br />• The Project is an example for other communities exploring use of Upland Sand borrow <br />source alternatives <br />o Project has generated positive interest from other local governments, State and <br />Federal regulatory agencies, coastal engineering consultants, and the Florida <br />Shore and Beach Preservation Association <br />o Recently, Collier County, Fl constructed a Truck Haul — Upland Sand borrow <br />project. This project implemented the lessons learned from Indian River County, <br />not limited to sand quality/processing techniques, and construction logistics, to <br />complete a very successful project. The Collier County project was also recently <br />presented/discussed during the 2014 National Conference on Beach <br />Preservation Technology. <br />//,‘ - 7 <br />
