At live auctions, our <br />auctioneer collects a 10% buyer's premium. <br />The Sheriff's Department plans to host a public auction at their facility on May 31, 2014, and we <br />will attempt to sell the bulk of our surplus items there. We presently have a few items we <br />would like to sell online, as they require extraordinary staff effort to remove from their current <br />location. These items, as well as a few others we would like to test out online are shown on the <br />attached excess equipment list. <br />After the May 31, 2014 auction at the Sheriffs Department, we believe it will be most efficient <br />for the county to sell surplus items online before the elements, vandalism, or lack of use have <br />taken a toll on their value. With many of our live auction partners turning to online auctions, <br />the pool of surplus goods to draw buyers to a live auction will decrease, however we will <br />continue to utilize live auctions when practical. <br />SOURCE OF FUNDS: <br />No funding is required, as all expenses will be paid by the buyer. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends the Board authorize the Chairman to execute both the Public Surplus Seller <br />Agreement and the Agreement for Payment Processing to enable the Purchasing Division to <br />enroll as a seller with Public Surplus. <br />Staff further recommends the Board declare the items on the attached Excess Equipment List as <br />surplus and authorize their sale and/or proper disposal through Public Surplus.
