project and include future phase work that may be grant eligible, especially if a community- supported design is already in hand. To develop a realistic, expanded project scope, Community Development Department staff coordinated with MPO, Public Works, and Budget Office staff, along with Kimley-Horn design professionals. That group determined that an expanded scope should be broken-out into two phases and include the following in addition to landscaping improvements: • bike lanes/widened shoulders • curbing of street intersections • a turn-lane improvement in front of Gifford Middle School • re-surfacing side street approaches and • culverting small portions of the H-3 canal (the canal that runs the south side of the 45'1' Street) at street intersections. In order to move forward with a design that provides for an expanded project scope, additional consultant work is needed. To that end, Kimley-Horn has submitted the attached amendment to Work Order No. 6 for a revised scope of services. The cost of additional design work is $20,500. Staff has reviewed and confirmed that the expanded scope and work order are reasonable and appropriate. FUNDING The$20,500 cost of this work order amendment will be paid from gas tax funds,Account 10921441- 066510-03023 —Gas tax/45th Street Beautification. RECOMMENTATION Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners approve the attached amendment#I to Work Order No. 6 with Kimley-Horn and authorize the Chairman to execute the amendment.
