CONSENT <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Honorable Board of County Commissioners <br />THROUGH: Joseph A. Baird, County Administrator <br />FROM: John King, Director <br />Department of Emery' cy ' ervices <br />DATE: August 26, 2014 <br />SUBJECT: Invitation from John's Island Golf Club for Staff to Participate in a "Public Safety <br />Day" Golf Outing <br />It is respectfully requested that the information contained herein be given formal consideration by the <br />Board of County Commissioners at the next scheduled meeting. <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS: <br />John's Island Club General Manager Brian Kroh has extended an invitation to the Emergency <br />Services staff to attend the annual "Public Safety Day" scheduled for September 14, 2014. The <br />inaugural golf outing was an expression of appreciation for assistance in suppressing a fire at John's <br />Island West Clubhouse in 1990. Since that time, John's Island Club sponsors an annual public safety <br />day for all county and municipal public safety agencies, including paramedics, firefighters, law <br />enforcement officers, dispatchers, and administrative staff. <br />Chapter 104.06 (5)(b)(8) of the County Code allows units of county employees to participate in <br />"Local outings...with prior approval of the Board of County Commissioners..." Emergency <br />Services employees have participated in the annual outings for many years after receiving approval <br />from the Board. <br />FUNDING: <br />There are no funding requirements for this item. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff respectfully requests favorable consideration by the Board regarding the invitation from John's <br />Island Club for Emergency Services staff to participate in the golf outing. <br />49 <br />
