Planner DeBlois asked if the shallows area north of Pelican <br />island was left as is. <br />Commissioner Bird felt the 1' depth there will keep both <br />boats and manatees out of the area, and that was generally agreed <br />upon. <br />The DCA later in the meeting requested additional clarifica- <br />tion. Mr. Rose advised that as the DNR tied to interpret the <br />decision on extending the area opposite Hole -in -the -Walt, one way <br />it is a major problem, and the other way they can live with it. <br />The DNR's concept was to allow a westward corridor for the <br />manatees to move while still accommodating skiing. He believed <br />the county can extend the area to the south as in the Motion, but <br />the question is did the county intend that area then to go west. <br />If it is just extended to the south tip of the island and the <br />east, they can live with that. <br />west. <br />Commissioner Scurlock believed we extended it south not <br />Mr. Moody referred to the map and noted that the little <br />piece of an island opposite Gem Island was at one time part of <br />Gem Island, and when the channel was renegotiated, they cut that <br />part off.
