Bid #90-90 - Wabasso Beach Park Restroom Re -Roofing <br />Administrator Chandler reviewed the following memo from <br />General Services Director Dean: <br />DATE: JUNE 29, 1990 <br />TO: HONORABLE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />THRU: JAMES E. CHANDLER <br />COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR <br />FROM: H.T. "SONNY" DEAN, DIRECTO <br />DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES <br />SUBJECT: WABASSO BEACH PARK RESTROOM RE -ROOFING <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY BID NUMBER 90-90 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On request of the Department of <br />Public <br />Works the subject project was <br />advertised for competitive bid. <br />There <br />were six (6) invitations sent <br />out and all responded with a "No <br />Bid". <br />Each respondent was called to <br />ascertain their reluctance to bid the <br />project. <br />1. Technical Systems <br />Does <br />not install Cedar Shingles. <br />2. E. & C. Roofing <br />Will <br />not bid using specified nails. <br />3. Roofing Systems, Inc. <br />Does <br />not agree with specifications. <br />4. Roof Suppliers of Florida <br />Does <br />not bid shingle roofs. <br />5. Trans Coastal <br />Will <br />not bid using specified nails. <br />6. R. Zorc & Sons Would not give specified warranty. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS• <br />In view of the fact that we have made an effort to competitively bid <br />the project with negative results, staff requests authority to <br />negotiate a contract with a roofing company that can and will meet <br />all the specifications and provide a proper bond and insurance. <br />Administrator Chandler advised that on this item, staff will <br />redo the specs and rebid it. <br />Commissioner Bowman asked why cedar shakes were required and <br />also questioned why we do not use copper nails on structures by <br />the ocean. <br />Public Works Director Davis explained that we were replacing <br />the existing roof which was cedar shakes and wanted it to have <br />continuity of appearance with with the other structures.at the <br />JUL 101990 9 BOOK i s rKULE _l <br />
