JUL 2 4 <br />1990 <br />tax, <br />and he <br />believed we are making up the difference across the <br />nation, in essence, by subsidizing those states that do have an <br />income tax. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Wheeler, SECONDED by Com- <br />missioner Scurlock, the Board unanimously adopted <br />Resolution 90-90 in support of the efforts of the <br />bipartisan group effort to reduce the federal budget <br />deficit through the elimination of state/local income <br />tax deductions. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 90- gp <br />A RESOLUTION OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, <br />BY ITS BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, IN <br />SUPPORT OF A CONGRESSIONAL BIPARTISAN LEADER- <br />SHIP EFFORT TO REDUCE THE FEDERAL BUDGET <br />DEFICIT THROUGH THE ELIMINATION OF STATE/LOCAL <br />INCOME TAX DEDUCTIONS. <br />WHEREAS, Congress In an effort to balance the federal <br />budget Is considering the elimination of state and local <br />Income tax deductions; and <br />WHEREAS, certain states, such as Florida, have no <br />state or local Income tax and therefore have not been able <br />to benefit from any such Income tax deduction; and <br />WHEREAS, states which are able to deduct state and <br />local income taxes from their federal income tax obligation <br />are, therefore, getting an undue advantage over states such <br />as Florida.; and <br />WHEREAS, treating all states on an equal basis would <br />be a more fair method of attacking the federal budget <br />deficit, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that: <br />1. The County goes on record In support of the <br />Congressional bipartisan effort to reduce the federal budget <br />deficit through elimination of state and local Income tax <br />deductions from federal tax obligation. <br />2. - The Clerk to the Board is authorized to send a <br />copy of this resolution to the National Association of <br />Count•les, the State Association of Counties, the <br />54 <br />
