<br />WEDNE'WAY. SEPTEMBER 7th 1932.
<br />The Board of County Commissioners in and for Indian River County, Florida, met
<br />at the Court House in Vero Beach, Florida, on Wednesday, September 7th 1932, at
<br />11:00 o'clock A.P. on call of the Chairman, with the following members of the Board
<br />present: Albert 0. Helseth, Chairman; J..D.Yongue; J.W.LaBruee; J.J.P.Ham.ilton and
<br />Eli C. 'talker. .also present was Miles Warren, Clerk.
<br />J.B.'7etherington, Assistant State Auditor and Angus Sumner, State Attorney were
<br />also present before the Board.
<br />The Chairman announced the call was for the purpose of going over the condition
<br />of the office of Tax Collector.
<br />The Assistant State Auditor made a report to the Board of condition of this
<br />office as ofSeptember 6th 1932, showing an alleged shortage on the 1930 and 1931
<br />tax rolls, since last audit of $7,380.99.
<br />The following resolution was offered by Commissioner Hamilton, who moved its
<br />adoption, which was seconded by Commissioner Yongue:
<br />WHERMAS, J.B.Wetherington, Assistant State Auditor, has this date reported to
<br />this Board that he has just completed an audit of the office of Tax Collector of
<br />Indian River County, for the period of time beginning with January 11th 1932, and
<br />ending with September 7th 1932, and that there now exists a shortage in said office for
<br />said period of time in the sum of $7,380.99; and,
<br />WHEREAS, by auditor's report on said office filed last January, there was then a
<br />shortage of $5,986.07, in addition to the sum of $27,847.69 left in Farmers Bank of
<br />Vero Beach, which should have been paid over by the Collector but which was left in
<br />said Bank and became frozen assets, and,
<br />WHEREAS, after due consideration of the matter, assuming the auditors' reports to
<br />reflect the true and correct conditions existing in said office, it is the opinion of
<br />this Board that the public welfare requires the immediate suspension of the present
<br />incumbent of said office;
<br />THEREFOEIE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River
<br />County, Florida; duly assembled on this 7th day of 'September 1932, that Honorable
<br />Doyle E. Carlton, Governor of the State of Florida, be, and he is hereby requested by
<br />this Board to mediately suspend G.R.Olmstead, from the office of Tax Collector of
<br />Indian'River County, Florida, and,

<br />RESOLVED that Clerk of
<br />this Board, be,
<br />and
<br />he is hereby
<br />directed to
<br />promptly
<br />deliver a
<br />certified copy of these
<br />resolutions to
<br />the
<br />Governor and
<br />to Mr.
<br />Olmstead, and that he immediately communicate this action 62 the Board to the Governor
<br />by telegram.
<br />After the foregoing resolution was read for the Board's consideration, Mr.Olmstead,',
<br />Tax Collect -or, appeared before the Board and announced he would resign from such office
<br />at once. After such announcement further action on the resolution -introduced was then
<br />deferred.
<br />It was ordered that the County Attorney be instructed to make demand on the Tax
<br />Collector and his official bonds for alleged shortage existing according to the
<br />Assistant State Auditor's report.
<br />There being no further business the Board adjourned to re -convene upon call of the
<br />Chai man.
