AUG 2 6 1JJ0 <br />o <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br />Commissioner Scurlock just wished to note that he'felt Item <br />6E in regard -to the West side Highway U.S.I. force Main is <br />somewhat confusing in that it seems that there is a like item <br />under Utilities Matters, but actually they are different. <br />A, County Jail - Phase II Skylights <br />The Board reviewed memo from the Director of General <br />Services "Sonny" Dean: <br />DATE: AUGUST 16, 1990 <br />TO: HONORABLE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />THRU: JAMES E. CHANDLER <br />COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR <br />FROM: H.T. "SONNY" DEAN, DIRECTOR <br />DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES <br />SUBJECT: INDIAN RIVER COUNTY JAIL - PHASE II SKYLIGHTS <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Prior to expiration of the warranty on the subject facility, we were <br />and are experiencing numerous problems with leaks in connection with <br />the skylights on Phase II of the Jail. Schopke Construction and <br />Engineering, Inc, the general contractor on this project <br />subcontracted with EPCO, Inc. for the skylights. Schopke, on notice <br />from us has notified the subcontractor by letter three times and <br />telephone once but EPCO has failed to correct the problems. <br />ANALYSIS• <br />Lucas Waterproofing has estimated a cost of $8,400.00 to correct the <br />leaking problems associated with the subject skylights. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />Since, all effort has failed to resolve the problem described above, <br />staff recommends the Board authorize our legal staff to proceed with <br />litigation for damages. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by Commis- <br />sioner Wheeler, Commissioner Bird being absent, the <br />Board unanimously (4-0) authorized legal staff to pro- <br />ceed with litigation for damages as recommended above. <br />2 <br />
