NOV 6 1990 BOOK 8 1 F,IGE$41 <br />Construction Change Directive #2 - Testing and Balancina HVAC <br />System in Kitchen Area <br />Indian River County previously requested that Soveran Construction <br />Company present a price to provide testing and balancing work for <br />the HVAC system in the kitchen area prior to acceptance by the <br />Owner. This Construction Change Directive provides all work <br />associated with the testing and balancing of this area including <br />the hood. The price for the work was $2,650.00 with no additional <br />days which increases the original contract sum. <br />Construction Chanae Directive #3 (Proposal Request #18) - Replace <br />Gas Shut -Off Valves <br />The original valves the Architect designated in the specifications <br />were not permitted by the Fire Inspector since they did not meet <br />code requirements and presented a potential danger. Additional <br />time was requested by the Contractor due to a loss of work when new <br />valves had to be ordered and installed.This apparent error on the <br />part of the Architect will be addressed with, other identified <br />Proposal Requests that appear to be the responsibility of Frizzell <br />which will be negotiated in terms of who should pay the additional <br />costs. <br />This Construction Change Directive adds $1,896.81 and seven days <br />' to the original contract. <br />Telephone System Replacement <br />� eta .;• In a letter from Major Bob Reese dated September 13, 1990, a <br />f.;a. request was made for the County to accept and -fund a new phone <br />r'= y. proposals were included in <br />the tcorrespondence which statedpricesof $17,946.00 and $18,717.12 <br />r f" for the equipment and installation. After meeting with the General <br />''Services staff and further research by them, Director Sonny Dean <br />recommends adding to the existing system which will provide eleven <br />(11) more phones and extensions to the equipment now in place at <br />a price not to exceed $4,970 including installation. <br />Staff also recommends that funding for <br />equipment be allocated from the furnishings <br />of. the Indian River County Jail in lieu <br />account. <br />ALTERNATIVES AND ANALYSIS: <br />the additional phone <br />account for Phase III <br />of the construction <br />The testing and balancing of the HVAC system in the renovated <br />kitchen area was necessary so that the County would not be in a <br />Position of accepting the kitchen without verifying the HVAC system <br />met specifications. The kitchen has been accepted pending minor <br />work items that need to be completed and meals are now' being <br />Prepared for the inmates in the renovated kitchen. <br />The Construction Manager has documented the problems encountered <br />regarding the gas valves and negotiations are planned with Frizzell <br />Architects, Inc., to resolve this matter along with other—'similar <br />incidents that relate to apparent errors in construction <br />specifications. <br />Modification of the existing telephone system as recommended will <br />accomplish the desired objective of the Sheriff's Department by <br />Providing additional phones and phone locations to assist detention <br />staff in carrying out their duties and assignments. <br />L__J <br />42 <br />
