Tuesday, January 8, 1991 <br />The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, <br />Florida, met in Regular Session at the County Commission <br />Chambers, 1840 25th Street, Vero Beach, Florida, on Tuesday, <br />January 8, 1991, at 9:00 o'clock A.M. Present were Carolyn K. <br />Eggert, Chairman; Richard N. Bird; Vice Chairman; Margaret C. <br />Bowman; Don C. Scurlock, Jr; and Gary C. Wheeler. Also"present <br />were James E..Chandler, County Administrator; Charles P. Vitunac, <br />Attorney to the Board of -County Commissioners; OMB Director <br />Joseph Baird; and Barbara Bonnah, Deputy Clerk. <br />The Chairman called the meeting to order, and Attorney <br />Vitunac led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br />ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN AND -VICE-CHAIRMAN <br />Chairman Eggert announced that today is the annual <br />organizational meeting of the Board, and reviewed procedures to <br />be followed in electing new Commission officers. Before opening <br />the floor to nominations for Chairman, she wished to thank her <br />fellow Commissioners for allowing her the privilege to serve as <br />their Chairman this past year She noted that the past year has <br />been a very challenging year and a very successful one, which saw <br />the adoption of a 20 -year Comprehensive Plan, the siting,of a new <br />courthouse in downtown Vero Reach, and the construction of two <br />libraries, a jail addition and a public health building, and she <br />felt there was a lot accomplished above and beyond the routine <br />running of a county. She credited Administrator Chandler, after <br />his two years on the job, for the increasingly businesslike <br />atmosphere in county government. She also wished to thank <br />everyone on staff for being so helpful and cooperative. <br />Chairman Eggert opened the floor to'nominations for <br />Chairman, and Commissioner Wheeler placed the name of <br />Commissioner Bird in nomination. Commissioner Scurlock seconded <br />the nomination. <br />There being no further nominations, Chairman Eggert declared <br />the nominations closed. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner 1% -heeler, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Scurlock, the Board unanimously. - <br />elected Rjchard N.
