McCAIN <br />CAPITAL PROJECTS ENGINEER <br />DEPARTMENT OF UTILITY SERVICES <br />SUBJECT: 43RD AVENUE WATER ENSION <br />CHANGE ORDER NO. <br />IRC PROJECT NO. 1 - -DS <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On November 13, 1990, the Indian River County Board of County <br />Commissioners approved a contract with Belvedere Construction <br />Company for the above -listed job. We now wish to have them extend <br />our water line on 48th Court, between 16th Street and Old Sugar Mill <br />Estates. <br />ANALYSIS• <br />There are eight 1/2 -acre lots that will be assessed on a voluntary <br />basis _for the construction of this line. The cost of this <br />construction is $14,998.00, which equates to $1,874.75 per lot. <br />This line will provide a backup feed line for Sugar Mill Estates, as <br />well as for 10th Street. Monies for this project will come from the <br />impact fee fund. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />The staff of the Department of Utility Services recommends that the <br />Board of County Commissioners approve the attached change order No. <br />1 with Belvedere Construction Company. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Eggert, that the Board approve Change <br />Order No. 1 with Belvedere Construction Company. <br />Under discussion, Commissioner Scurlock felt that we need to <br />be extremely careful when extending contracts. He felt it is an <br />easy habit to get into because it is convenient and many times it <br />does save us money, but we need to be cautious that it doesn't <br />become too comfortable and that we always make sure that we get <br />- 32 <br />
