Proclamation - Mental Health Month <br />Proclamation designating May, 1991 as MENTAL HEALTH MONTH is <br />hereby made part of the record. <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF <br />MAY, 1991 <br />AS <br />MENTAL HEALTH MONTH <br />WHEREAS, eight to twelve million children suffer from mental <br />or emotional disorders such as depression, schizophrenia, <br />attention -def icit disorder, anorexia nervosa, bulimia, anxiety <br />disorders, Tourette's syndrome, and others; and <br />WHEREAS, these children, through no fault of their own or <br />their families, are robbed of their capacity to learn, grow, play <br />and develop to their fullest potential; and <br />WHEREAS, no single public agency is responsible for the <br />well-being of :these children, or for educating their parents on <br />services, treatment or legal rights; and <br />WHEREAS, the nightmare of these children's illnesses is <br />often compounded for parents and family members by the nightmare <br />of trying to get accurate information about the causes and nature <br />of these disorders and where to get help for their child and <br />themselves; and <br />WHEREAS, -'over the past eight decades the nationwide Mental <br />Health Association has established itself as a vital source of <br />information, leadership and empowerment for those with serious <br />mental or emotional disorders, enabling them to become effective <br />advocates on their own behalf: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the month of <br />May, 1991 be observed as <br />MENTAL HEALTH MONTH <br />in Indian River County, and the Board further urges all citizens <br />of this county to join forces with the organizational, <br />governmental -and individual leaders of our community in an <br />endeavor to .bring the plight of these children to the forefront <br />of public attention, and to support the efforts of the Mental <br />Health Association to promote mental well-being and ensure the <br />mental health of all Americans, young and old. <br />Adopted this 7th day of May, 1991. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />4 HT—chard HT-chardN.
