PROCLAMATION 6-6 <br />In Recognition of the 125`h Anniversary of Florida Public Health <br />WHEREAS, the yellow fever epidemic that occurred n Florida during 1887-1888 <br />brought to light the need for control of this and other diseases in Florida to prevent future <br />epidemics-, and <br />WHEREAS, in response to this need, the Florida Legislature created the State Board of <br />Health on February 20, 1889; and <br />WHEREAS, the State Board of Health, now named the Florida Department of Health, <br />has a presence in all Florida counties to protect, promote, and improve the health of all <br />people in Florida-, and <br />WHEREAS, the efforts of the Florida Department of Health have helped create healthier <br />living environments and a better quality of life for the residents and visitors in Indian River <br />County-, and <br />WHEREAS, the dedicated public health professionals who work for the Florida <br />Department of Health in Indian River County continue to serve the needs of our community <br />by providing health services, monitoring and responding to emerging health threats, and <br />promoting healthy choices for all who live, work, and play in Indian River County-, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the Board hereby recognizes <br />the 125th Anniversary of Florida Public Health, and ask that all residents join us in <br />extending our sincere gratitude to the staff, past and present, of the Florida Department of <br />Health in Indian River County County for their commitment to the people of our communities <br />during these one hundred and twenty-five years. <br />Adopted this 18th day of February, 2014. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, <br />IN�IAI� RI ER COUNTY, F'ORIDA <br />CD Pete O'Bryan, Chairman <br />"Wesley S.
