1.3.9 Employment Characteristics <br />Table 1-12 compares the size of the labor force 16 years of age and older to the total <br />population of the State and County. Approximately 86% of Indian River's civilian labor force <br />is employed. The unemployment rate in Indian River County is higher than the statewide <br />unemployment rate. The highest concentration of jobs occurs in the education/health/social <br />service sector (22%), followed by the Professional/Management/Administrative sector (15%) <br />and Retail Trade sector (13%). Table 1-14 displays tourism tax revenues collected for FY 2007-08 through FY <br />2011-12. Variations in annual taxes collected can be attributed to the number of visitors <br />and/or their expenditures.
