CHILDREN'S SERVICES ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br /> The objective of the Children's Services Advisory Committee, working as an advisory committee <br /> to the Indian River County Commissioners, is to give Indian River County children, age 0-17, the <br /> opportunity to grow up as "Healthy Children in a Healthy Community". The term "healthy" <br /> encompasses the socioeconomic, physical, environmental, educational and behavioral aspects <br /> of a child's life. <br /> It is also the objective to recommend a unified system of planning and delivery, within which <br /> children's needs can be identified, targeted, evaluated and addressed by Children's Services <br /> Advisory Committee, through the Board of County Commissioners. <br /> MISSION <br /> The mission of Children's Services Advisory Committee is to facilitate and coordinate the <br /> planning and development of an effective and collaborative health and human services delivery <br /> system to meet the needs of children of Indian River County. The Children's Services Advisory <br /> Committee strongly supports cultural diversity and encourages its funded programs to <br /> demonstrate the inclusion of all children and families in program development and <br /> implementation. <br /> VISION <br /> The efforts of the Children's Services Advisory Committee will insure the development of a <br /> shared vision for the health and human services delivery system in Indian River County, <br /> enabling funding sources and providers to define the performance of their roles in a dynamically <br /> 141"' changing environment. <br /> HISTORY <br /> County Ordinance #99-01 updated the Children's Services Advisory Committee on January 19, <br /> 1999. The ordinance was patterned after FL125.901, which seeks to provide an organized <br /> framework for developmental, treatment and rehabilitative services for children. <br /> FUNDING <br /> October 1, 2011 -September 30, 2012 was the 15th year the Board of County Commissioners <br /> has authorized funding. The amount of funding for 2011-2012 was $656,726.00. The program <br /> is funded through a payment of(up to) 0.125 mil of Ad Valorem Property Taxes. <br /> ACCOUNTABILITY <br /> The Children's Services Advisory Committee is an advisory committee that is accountable to, <br /> and functions under, the direction of, Indian River County Commissioners through the <br /> Department of Human Services. The Committee is comprised of a voluntary body, appointed by <br /> the Board of County Commissioners, which carefully monitors program costs, to provide <br /> maximum benefit from the taxpayer's dollars with minimal overhead costs. Also, the committee <br /> is authorized to seek grants from State and Federal agencies, and accept donations from public <br /> and private sources. <br /> - 4- <br /> 39 <br />
