90% of the students receiving LST reported that they are now utilizing relaxation breathing <br /> techniques. <br /> Additionally: The Life Skills Training Program was administered in the classroom of 26 <br /> different teachers in all four middle schools of Indian River County. Each of the 26 teachers <br /> were asked to complete a LST survey, 26 teachers returned the completed survey. The survey <br /> specifically asked questions relevant to the Life Skills lessons taught during the course of the <br /> training program. Listed below are the relevant outcomes recorded from the survey. <br /> • All 26 teachers strongly agree that the Life Skills Training program increases student's self- <br /> awareness. <br /> • All 26 teachers agree the Life Skills Training program increased the student's ability to <br /> manage anxiety. The LST unit on "Anxiety" specifically teaches relaxation and breathing <br /> techniques as methods for coping with anxiety. <br /> Outcome #3: 70% of middle school students receiving the LST curriculum will demonstrate an <br /> increase in anti-drug attitudes. <br /> According to the 2010 FYSA Survey, Indian River County middle school youth (ages 10-14) <br /> reported the following percentages regarding "if they agreed it would be wrong for someone <br /> their age to"... <br /> 2010 2010 <br /> Smoke Cigarettes 87.3 Drink alcohol regularly 80.4 <br /> Smoke marijuana 86.9 Use other illicit drugs 95.2 <br /> Note: 2012 FYSAS will be released in November 2012 — an update will be released with the <br /> new data <br /> United for Families <br /> Caregiver Support Program <br /> Statistics as of 9/30/2012 <br /> Grant: $10,500 <br /> Funds Used as of 9/30/2012: $10,500 <br /> Total Children Served as of 9/30/2012: 90 unduplicated children served residing in Indian River <br /> County. <br /> Cost per Child: The cost per child is $341.02 <br /> Taxonomy Number: PH-140.500 <br /> Focus Areas Addressed: Mental Health <br /> Program Description <br /> This program is designed to: Improve the mental and emotional well-being of children in foster <br /> care by reducing the number of times they are moved from home to home while in the foster- <br /> care system. <br /> Collaboration: Hibiscus Children's Center, Department of Children and Families, Indian River <br /> County Foster Parent Association, Children's Home Society, Indian River County School Board <br /> - 27- <br /> 62 <br />
