There are two types of <br /> measures. The first is a question on the ballot to obtain an expression of elector sentiment with respect to a <br /> matter of substantial concern within the county. See Section 125.01(1)(y), Florida Statutes. The second <br /> type of measure is bond referendum. <br /> GENERAL REQUIREMENTS. <br /> In Indian River County, these measures may only be put on the ballot as a result of a majority vote of the <br /> Board of County Commissioners. With respect to a referendum for either of the measures described <br /> above, pursuant to section 101.161, Florida Statutes, a ballot summary of the public measure must be <br /> printed in clear and unambiguous language on the ballot after the list of candidates, followed by the word <br /> "yes" and also by the word "no". The ballot summary and the ballot title shall be contained in the Board's <br /> enabling resolution. The ballot summary shall be an explanatory statement of the chief purpose of the <br /> measure and shall not exceed 75 words in length. The ballot title shall consist of a caption, not exceeding <br /> 15 words in length, by which the measure is commonly referred. <br /> Indian River Co.
