Gray,Jr. JVv <br /> Coastal Engineer <br /> SUBJECT: Letter of Support <br /> Requesting Legislature for Special and Separate FY 2013/14 <br /> Appropriation for Beach Repair Post Hurricane Sandy <br /> DATE: February 7, 2013 <br /> DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS <br /> Hurricane Sandy passed approximately 200 miles east of Indian River County producing over <br /> 10-foot breaking waves along the coast and 20 to 30 feet waves offshore. As a result of the <br /> high surf, 12 miles of Indian River County non-federal engineered shoreline was damaged, <br /> resulting in an estimated $9.6 million in beach repair costs. <br /> During the regularly scheduled Board of County Commission meeting held on February 5, 2013, <br /> Public Discussion Item B.5; Mr. (Tuck) William Ferrell requested the Board's consideration to <br /> write a letter of support to Legislature for Supplemental Beach Sand Restoration assistance <br /> post Hurricane Sandy. <br /> Attached for the Board's consideration is a letter to our local Legislators requesting their <br /> support and assistance on a special and separate shoreline erosion appropriation under the <br /> statewide beach management for FY 2013/14. <br /> A similar letter of support has been transmitted by The Brevard County Board of County <br /> Commissioners. <br /> FUNDING <br /> No funding is required at this time. Any future appropriation may require a local match <br /> (amount not yet determined). Local funds are available to provide a required match.
