PROCLAMATION <br /> RECOGNIZING THE MONTH OF MARCH, 2013 AS <br /> ST. BALDRICK'S FOUNDATION <br /> CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH <br /> WHEREAS, worldwide, more than 175,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year and one in five <br /> children will lose their battle with cancer; and <br /> WHEREAS, childhood cancer is the number one cause of death by disease of children in the United States; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the St. Baldrick's Foundation is the largest volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the <br /> most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives; and <br /> WHEREAS, the St. Baldrick's Foundation currently funds more in childhood cancer research grants than <br /> any organization except the United States government; and <br /> WHEREAS, every grant funded by the St. Baldrick's Foundation is for childhood cancer research; and <br /> WHEREAS, enlisting the recognition and support of elected officials in Indian River County, along with the <br /> residents will help to raise awareness and move us closer to finding a cure and better treatment options for kids <br /> battling this disease; and <br /> WHEREAS, the local chapter of the St. Baldrick's foundation recruited volunteers to raise funds for <br /> research and treatment to battle juvenile cancers. With over 150 volunteer shavees, dozens of support volunteers <br /> and the benevolence of many citizens of Indian River County, over $100,000 dollars was raised to battle juvenile <br /> cancers; and <br /> WHEREAS,we will continue to support such events until a cure for childhood cancer is found; and <br /> aw <br /> WHEREAS,this first annual St. Baldrick's Foundation event was dedicated to the life of Quinton Martin. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, INDIAN <br /> RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the Board does hereby proclaim the month of March of 2013 and March of all <br /> subsequent years, to be officially deemed <br /> ST. BALDRICK'S FOUNDATION CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH <br /> Adopted this 19th day of March, 2013. <br /> BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br /> J e h E.
