Baird, County Administrator <br /> THROUGH: John King, Director �l'' <br /> Department of Emer cy Services <br /> FROM: Dale Justice, Emergency Management Coordinator <br /> 09— <br /> DATE: March 22, 2013 <br /> SUBJECT: Approval of the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Public CPR & <br /> AED Training Classes and Equipment. <br /> It is respectfully requested that the information contained herein be given formal consideration <br /> by the Board of County Commissioners at the next scheduled meeting. <br /> DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS: <br /> Annually, the Florida Division of Emergency Management administers the Community <br /> Emergency Response Team (CERT) grant which helps to build, train and sustain local CERT <br /> teams. The Board of County Commission approved CERT grant #12-CI-24-10-40-01-407 on <br /> January 10, 2012 in the amount of$9,354.00. <br /> ALTERNATIVES AND ANALYSIS: <br /> The Indian River County CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) program trains and <br /> equips residents of Indian River County to respond to their neighbors, assess damage, treat the <br /> injured and assist public safety in times of disaster as well as providing non-disaster support, <br /> under the direction of public safety, for various public events. <br /> To help mitigate the impact to our communities after a disaster occurs, the state provided <br /> Department of Homeland Security funds in an effort to ease the financial burden and provide <br /> additional CERT courses. The approval of this contract will provide three (3) CERT CPR <br /> courses, books and equipment training up to 75 county residents. <br /> FUNDING: <br /> This is a 100% federally funded subgrant. Grant funds cannot be utilized for in-house services. <br /> The Florida Heart CPR is authorized by the Florida Division of Emergency Management to <br /> provide the technical services and meets the requirements of the Fiscal Year 2011 State <br /> 160 <br />
