Departmental Matters <br /> Community Development <br /> INDIAN RIVER COUNTY,FLORIDA <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> TO: Joseph A.Baird, County Administrator <br /> VIS O HEAD CONCURRENCE <br /> 04c <br /> obert M.Keating, P, Co unity Development Director <br /> FROM: Sasan Rohani,AICP,Chief,Long-Range Planning 5W <br /> DATE: May 15,2013 <br /> RE: EVALUATION OF THE GIFFORD NEIGHBORHOOD PLAN <br /> It is the requested that the following information be given formal consideration by the Board of <br /> County Commissioners at its regular meeting of May 21, 2013. <br /> DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS <br /> At the April 16, 2013 Board of County Commissioners meeting, Commissioner Wesley Davis <br /> requested that the Board direct staff to update the Gifford Neighborhood Plan. After discussion,the <br /> Board directed staff to evaluate the Gifford Neighborhood Plan (GNP), provide information <br /> regarding implementation of the plan, and identify needs for updating the plan. This is that <br /> evaluation. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> In July 1999, the Board of County Commissioners created a task force to identify issues that <br /> existed in Gifford and to make recommendations regarding those issues to the County <br /> Commission. To ensure that the task force would be effective, the County Commission <br /> requested that the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce appoint task force members <br /> representing agencies that contribute to economic development in the Gifford community. <br /> For the next year, the task force worked on that project. In July 2000, the Task Force presented <br /> its findings and recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners (Attachment 1). Based <br /> on those recommendations, the Board directed county planning staff to develop a neighborhood <br /> plan for the Gifford Community. <br /> 1 <br /> 67 <br />
