PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
fv v
INDIAN RIVER COUNTYfir
BOARD MEMORANDUM '
To: Joseph A. Baird, County Administrator Date: May 28, 2013
Thru: John King, Director of Emergency Services
Thru: Vincent Burke, Director of Utility Services
From: Himanshu H. Mehta, P.E., Managing Director, Solid Waste Disposal District
Subject: PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT FOR HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS-ARE YOU READY?
Hurricane season starts June 1St. Solid Waste Disposal District (SWDD) wants our residents to be
prepared. Here are some things to do before the season starts:
• Trim your trees now; remove any dead or weak branches. Have your foliage thinned so
wind flows freely through branches, decreasing the chance that tree/plants will be
uprooted.
• Clear away debris from your home.
• Remove any yard furniture and yard accessories that may become dangerous in high
winds.
• Store outdoor grills, lawn mowers, and other items that can be damaged or damaging to
other homes.
These measures should be taken before there is a named storm. Once the storm is named SWDD
will be working hard to make sure the landfill and the Customer Convenience Centers are ready
for the aftermath, should the storm come our way.
SWDD and IRC Department of Emergency Services will be out at the Indian River Mail for the 2013
Hurricane Expo on Saturday, June 8th from 10 am to 4 pm to hand out Hurricane Preparedness
Guides, Hurricane tracking Charts, and to answer any questions.
ATTACHMENT: Public Advertisement for Hurricane Preparedness
APPROVED FOR AGENDA:
Indian River Co.
