New Business <br /> Vice Chairman Adair presented a PowerPoint regarding areas of concern <br /> for IRC Agricultural Water Supply, including a 2010 Citrus Groves Assessment <br /> from the United States Department of Agriculture, a 2011 Survey of Estimated <br /> Annual Water Use for St. Johns River Water Management District, outline of the <br /> general conditions of a consumptive water use, and a map of the Floridian <br /> Aquifer Well Locations, including free-flowing artesian wells; a copy of the <br /> PowerPoint is on file in the Commission Office. <br /> Vice Chairman Adair alerted the committee and attendees the estimated <br /> 1,000 permitted wells in the North Eastern portion of Indian River County were: <br /> a) Largely not in use due to the abandonment of citrus located East of <br /> Interstate 95; <br /> b) At least 50 years older, in poor condition and as a result, were likely <br /> leaking into groundwater table and/or,drainage,canals; <br /> c) If a cure for Huanglongbing (HLB), a citrus reening disease fatal for <br /> citrus trees was found, the abandoned groves would be replanted with <br /> citrus, creating a large demand or withdrawal from the Floridian aquifer, <br /> which would impact the County's.-,North well field and vise versa. <br /> Vice Chairman Adair introduced Richard Burklew, Jr., P.E.; Supervising <br /> Hydrologist, St. Johns River water` Management District, Palm Bay Service <br /> Center and Carl Larrabee; Jr.;, P.E.; Bureau Chief, Water Use Regulation, St. <br /> Johns River Water Management District, Palatka Headquarters. <br /> Mr. Larrabee '..presented I a PowerPoint regarding permit streamlining <br /> initiatives, district water supply planning/funding, alternative water supply options <br /> and artesian well.plugging program; a copy of the PowerPoint is on file in the <br /> Commission Office. <br /> Discussions ensued regarding potential funding sources, cost sharing <br /> availability, surface water retentions, available water sources and fee simple <br /> ownership of the acreage housing the water. <br /> AAC/Unapproved 2 May 23, 2013 <br /> F:\BCC\All Committees\AAC\Agendas & Minutes\2013\Minutes 5 23 13.doc S-.�L <br />
