PROCLAMATION <br /> DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER, 2013 AS <br /> OVARIAN CANCER AWARENESS MONTH <br /> WHEREAS, there will be an estimated 22,240 new cases of ovarian cancer <br /> diagnosed in the United States during 2013; and <br /> 4,,:> WHEREAS, there will be an estimated 14,030 women who will die of ovarian cancer <br /> in the United States this year; and <br /> WHEREAS, ovarian cancer is a serious and under-recognized threat to women's <br /> health. It is the 10th most common cancer among women, but the 5t leading cause of cancer- <br /> related-deaths. Currently 44% of the women diagnosed with ovarian cancer die from it within <br /> five years; and <br /> WHEREAS, relatively little is known about the disease and more ovarian cancer <br /> research is needed to develop early detection tools, better therapies, cures and prevention <br /> strategies; and <br /> WHEREAS, raising public awareness about ovarian cancer by educating nurses, <br /> doctors and women about the disease and its symptoms — bloating, difficulty eating or feeling <br /> full quickly, pelvic or abdominal pain, urinary problems (urgency or frequency) can help save <br /> women's lives. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br /> COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the month of September, <br /> 2013 is hereby designated as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in Indian River County, <br /> Florida and urge all men and women to become aware of the risks, and discuss a screening <br /> program with their physicians. <br /> Adopted this 20th day of August, 2013. <br /> BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, <br /> INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br /> 16 <br /> a Flescher, Chairman <br /> fWesley S.
