Public Works Director Jim Davis advised that some items were <br />bid out and other items were not, but since time is of the <br />essence, staff is recommending that the Board authorize staff to <br />buy directly from the suppliers the equipment that was competi- <br />tively bid and the items that we do not recommend rebidding. <br />Commissioner Eggert wanted to be assured that we are <br />purchasing splinter -free equipment, and Terry Thompson of <br />Engineering stated that the equipment specified is very high <br />quality, which is why we want to go with what we have bid as <br />opposed to the alternate bid. Basically, the best bid is not <br />necessarily the low bid. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Eggert, the Board unanimously approved <br />the award of Bid 91-118 and authorized the direct <br />purchase of the "no bid" items, as set out in the <br />above staff recommendation. <br />SCHEDULING _OF�TOURIST _DEVELOPMENT _COUNCIL `WORKSHOP <br />Chairman Bird recalled that during the budget workshops in <br />July we had talked about possibly having a workshop meeting <br />between this Board and the Tourist Development Council and other <br />interested parties to talk about our relationship and where we <br />are going with that situation. The suggestion has been made to <br />do that sometime in September. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Eggert, the Board unanimously scheduled <br />a workshop between the Board of County Commissioners <br />and the Tourist Development Council for Monday, <br />September 23, 1991 at 9:00 o'clock A.M. <br />43 <br />BOOK 0 APA�c d <br />J <br />
