APPROVAL OF EMS GRANT FOR FY -91/92 <br />The Board reviewed the following memo dated 8/28/91: <br />TO: Board of County Commissioners <br />THRU: James Chandler <br />County A 'mIist ator <br />FROM: Doug Wright, Director <br />Emergency Services <br />DATE: August 28, 1991 <br />SUBJECT: Approval of FY 91-92 EMS Grant <br />It is respectfully requested that the information contained herein be <br />given formal consideration by the Board of County Commissioners at <br />the next scheduled meeting. <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS <br />The Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services, Office of <br />Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is authorized by Chapter 401, Part <br />II, Florida Statutes, to distribute county grant funds. The funds <br />are then made available to eligible county governments to improve and <br />expand* their pre -hospital emergency medical services. The grant <br />program is an innovative process which enables EMS agencies to <br />enhance EMS systems through the Board of County Commissioners. <br />The EMS Grant has been prepared describing program needs and <br />proposing grant objectives as well as time frames for completion. <br />ALTERNATIVES AND ANALYSIS: <br />The county grant funds are derived from surcharges on various traffic <br />violations. Funding in the amount of $31,143 has been allocated to <br />Indian River County for FY 91-92. The grant funds will be utilized <br />as indicated in the grant for equipment and services to improve and <br />expand the Advanced Life Support EMS pre -hospital system. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends approval of the FY 91-92 EMS Grant and resolution to <br />purchase the equipment and services as noted in attachments. Staff <br />further recommends that the Board of County Commissioners authorize <br />the Chairman to execute the necessary documents to obtain funds from <br />HRS in the amount of $31,143 and authorize budget amendments as - <br />required to receive and expend the grant funds. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Wheeler, the Board unanimously approved <br />the FY 91-92 EMS Grant, as set out in the above staff <br />recommendation, and adopted Resolution 91-146, <br />authorizing the application for funding County <br />Emergency Medical Services (EMS) awards to be submitted <br />to the State of Florida Dept. of Health and <br />Rehabilitative Services. <br />GRANT APPLICATION IS ON FILE IN THE OFFICE OF THE CLERK <br />TO THE BOARD <br />23 PDOK P,1;tr� <br />SEP 17-1991 <br />
