Since we are self- <br />insured and it is our responsibility to protect the escrowed money <br />in our control and since Mr. Taylor is innocent, Attorney Vitunac <br />recommended we pay William Taylor $5,401.20 and try to recoup the <br />damages later. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bird, the Board unanimously authorized <br />payment of $5,401.20 to William Taylor and directed <br />the County Attorney to attempt to recoup the funds, <br />as recommended by staff. <br />REVIEW OF POLICY ON MAKEUP OF INTERVIEWING/SELECTION COMMITTEES <br />Chairman Eggert recounted discussions on the subject of the <br />makeup of interview and selection committees. She felt individual <br />commissioners should not be included in this activity. <br />Commissioner Wheeler recalled conversations with County <br />Administrator Chandler regarding the advantages and disadvantages <br />of commissioners being included on interview and selection <br />committees. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Wheeler, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Scurlock, to exclude commissioners from <br />sitting on review and selection committees. <br />Under discussion, Commissioner Bowman suggested that <br />commissioners might sit on the committees but not vote, and <br />Commissioner Scurlock pointed out that commissioners are not <br />restricted from attending the presentations since they are public <br />meetings. <br />Commissioner Bowman felt it was helpful to hear the <br />presentations, and Commissioner Bird suggested that when there is <br />an item of major expenditure the presentations could be made to the <br />entire Board along with the selection committee. <br />THE CHAIRMAN CALLED FOR THE QUESTION. <br />It was voted on and carried unanimously. <br />72 <br />_I <br />
