SECTION 01541 <br />PROTECTION OF THE WORK AND PROPERTY <br />1.1 GENERAL <br />A. CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for taking all precautions, providing a I <br />programs, and taking all actions necessary to protect the Work and all pu • lic <br />and private property and facilities from damage as specified in the Genera <br />Conditions and herein. <br />B. In order to prevent damage, injury or loss, CONTRACTOR'S actions shall <br />include, but not be limited to, the following: <br />1. Store apparatus, materials, supplies, and equipment in an orderly, sa e <br />manner that will not unduly interfere with the progress of the Work or he <br />Work of any other Contractor or utility service company. <br />2. Provide suitable storage facilities for all materials, which are subject t injury <br />by exposure to weather, theft, breakage, or otherwise. <br />3. Place upon the Work or any part thereof, only such loads as are con istent <br />with the safety of that portion of the Work. <br />4. Clean up frequently all refuse, rubbish, scrap materials, and debris c- used <br />by construction operations, so that at all times, the site of the Work p esents <br />a safe, orderly, and workmanlike appearance. <br />5. Provide barricades and guard rails around openings, for scaffolding, • r <br />temporary stairs and ramps, around excavations, elevated walkways : nd <br />other hazardous areas. <br />C. Except after written consent from proper parties, do not enter or occupy <br />privately -owned land with men, tools, materials or equipment, except on <br />easements provided herein. <br />D. Assume full responsibility for the preservation of all public and private pro <br />facility on or adjacent to the site. If any direct or indirect damage is done <br />on account of any act, omission, neglect or misconduct in the execution o <br />Work by the CONTRACTOR, it shall be restored by the CONTRACTOR, <br />expense, to a condition equal to or better than that existing before the da <br />was done. <br />11 <br />erty or <br />y or <br />the <br />t its <br />age <br />1.2 BARRICADES AND WARNING SIGNALS <br />Where Work is performed on or adjacent to any roadway, right-of-way, or publ c <br />place, provide barricades, fences, lights, warning signs, danger signals, and <br />watchmen, and take other precautionary measures for the protection of perso s or <br />property and of the Work. Paint barricades so they are visible at night. From .unset <br />to sunrise, furnish and maintain at least one light at each barricade. Erect su 'icient <br />barricades to keep vehicles from being driven on or into Work under construction. <br />Furnish watchmen in sufficient numbers to protect the Work.
