S.W.D.D. staff requests that the Board of County Commissioners <br />accept and execute the attached contract for award of grant funds <br />to the County in the amount of $41,875. It is also requested <br />that the Board authorize the S.W.D.D. to utilize the funds to <br />cover costs for improvements to the existing hazardous waste <br />storage facilities, with utilization of all remaining funds to <br />reimburse expenses for collection and disposal of household <br />waste. <br />The Board should be aware that the execution of this grant will <br />obligate the county to provide another two years of hazardous <br />waste collection service as is presently in place in accordance <br />with previous grants. <br />S.W.D.D. staff believes that this hazardous waste management <br />program is essential and beneficial to the interests of Indian <br />River County and had intentions of maintaining the program <br />regardless of obligations to the DER. The intent is to take <br />advantage of monies offered by the DER to continue a hazardous <br />waste management program on a long-term basis. <br />4 <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bird, the Board unanimously accepted <br />and authorized the Chairman to execute the contract <br />for the award of grant funds to the County in the <br />amount of $41,875, as set out in the above staff <br />recommendation. <br />CONTRACT IS ON FILE IN THE OFFICE OF THE CLERK TO THE BOARD <br />PUBLIC DISCUSSION - FDNR MANATEE PROTECTION SPEED ZONES <br />Commissioner Wheeler questioned the advisability of this being <br />on the Agenda today previous to the outcome of next Monday's <br />meeting of MANWAC, but Roland DeBlois, Chief of Environmental <br />Planning, felt it would be advantageous to discuss this today <br />since a DNR representative is -in attendance. <br />Mr. DeBlois briefly reviewed the following memo dated 4/27/92: <br />13 <br />E,OOK <br />MAY 0 51992 <br />
