"SONNY" DEAN, DIRECTOR <br />DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERV S <br />SUBJECT: INDIAN RIVER COUNTY COURTHOUSE PROJECT <br />UTILITY IMPROVEMENTS <br />BACKGROUND: <br />In order, to accommodate the new courthouse and parking garage it <br />will be necessary to improve some of the utility services for the <br />site. This consists of replacing and encasing the fifteen inch <br />gravity sewer with concrete to provide protection for the parking <br />garage to be built on top of it, plus replacing the six and eight <br />inch water main in order to provide proper fire protection for the <br />new buildings. <br />The City of Vero Beach has provided drawings and specifications for <br />the work as required. They have also estimated the associated cost <br />which includes engineering. In their letter to the County <br />Administrator they offered to handle these improvements in the same <br />manner as with the new library site. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />Since, this is all City utilities and they are willing to assume all <br />responsibility for installation, staff recommends authorization be <br />given the City to proceed with securing a qualified contractor to <br />perform the necessary work at a cost not to exceed their proposed <br />budget of $83,066.00. <br />This work was anticipated and monies were provided in the <br />construction budget for the project. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bird, the Board unanimously (4-0, <br />Commissioner Wheeler being absent) approved <br />staff's recommendation that the City of Vero Beach <br />be given authorization to proceed with securing a <br />qualified contractor to perform the necessary work <br />at a cost not to exceed their proposed budget of <br />$83,066.00, as set out in the above memo. <br />7 <br />6 <br />
