PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF APRIL, 2016 <br />AS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH <br />WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect is a serious problem for millions of children nationally, in the <br />State of Florida, and right here on the Treasure Coast; and <br />WHEREAS, LaVaughn Tilton, a local Philanthropist, founded Hibiscus Children's Center in 1985 with <br />the vision to provide a safe haven for our community's abused children; and <br />1 <br />WHEREAS, Hibiscus Children's Center has addressed the ever-changing needs of our community <br />for over three decades through expanding services such as Mental Health Services which include Infant <br />Mental Health; Specialized Sexual Abuse Treatment, Community Outreach Services, and Therapeutic <br />services for children in our residential facilities, and <br />WHEREAS, as a leader in child welfare services, Hibiscus Children's Center has been at the <br />forefront of providing prevention, intervention, and recovery services to children and families across the <br />Treasure Coast, and <br />WHEREASE, for over 30 years, the mission of Hibiscus Children's Center has never wavered – <br />every day we maintain a safe shelter for children who are abused, abandoned, and neglected by providing <br />prevention, residential, assessment, and recovery programs Hibiscus Children's Center also prepares <br />our childrenfor their future by constructing programs so that our children acquire an education, attain <br />emotional and physical well-being, achieve career readiness, and gain independent living skills; and <br />WHEREAS, Hibiscus Children's Center has provided over 250,000 nights of safety to abused <br />children since our inception in 1985 and continues to provide services to over 1,300 children and families <br />annually in an effort to prevent and reduce child abuse and to provide the resources that families need to <br />make our community stronger and a safe place for children. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE INDIAN RIVER COUNTY BOARD OF <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS that the month of April, 2016, be designated as CHILD ABUSE <br />PREVENTION MONTH in Indian River County, and all citizens are urged to use this time to better <br />understand, recognize, and respond to this grievous problem <br />Adopted this <br />is 5th day of April, 2016 BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />Tim <br />2 <br />vBob <br />�. —1 - <br />Solari, Chairman <br />4 W. <br />N <br />z� <br />- <br />J ep E Flescher, Vice Chairman <br />Wesley S Davis -� <br />Peter D O'Bryan G <br />Tim <br />2 <br />
