Indian River County <br /> SEVERE WEATHER RELATED HAZARD <br /> EOC ACTIVATION CHECKLIST <br /> PHASE DESCRIPTION <br /> Assessment Approximately 96-120 hours prior to expected landfall(3-5 days prior). The <br /> east coast of Florida lies within the 5-day track forecast cone. This is the <br /> period where close monitoring begins. Conference calls will be started with <br /> FDEM, National Hurricane Center and the National Weather Service. Initial <br /> notification e-mails would be sent out to public and ESFs. <br /> Level Ill Activation <br /> Awareness Approximately 72-hours prior to expected landfall (3 days prior). The east <br /> coast of Florida lies within the 3-day track forecast cone. This is the <br /> notification period, during which appropriate agencies and organizations <br /> would be made aware of the situation. <br /> Level Ill Activation. <br /> Stand-by Approximately 48-hours prior to expected landfall. Hurricane Watches are <br /> issued 48 hours in advance of the anticipated onset of tropical storm <br /> force winds. This is the alert period for the escalation of preparedness <br /> activities. <br /> Level Ill Activation. <br /> Stand-by/Decision Approximately 36 to 48-hours prior to expected landfall (1'/2-2 days prior). <br /> Hurricane Warning indicates that Hurricane conditions are expected <br /> and is issued 36 hours in advance of the anticipated onset of tropical <br /> storm force winds. The decision to issue evacuation orders will be <br /> considered during this phase. The citizens of Indian River County should be <br /> taking precautionary measures for a possible evacuation. <br /> Level it Activation. <br /> Preparation Approximately 36 hours prior to landfall (1'/2 days prior). Preparation time <br /> needed to activate the EOC. <br /> Level H Activation. <br /> Evacuation 24 hours prior to expected landfall (1 day prior). Officials determine and <br /> announce the official evacuation order. All evacuation activities must be <br /> completed during this phase. <br /> Level I Activation. <br /> Storm Event Time period commencing with the arrival of tropical storm force winds (39 <br /> mph) continuing until the issuance of an "All Clear"announcement. <br /> Evaluation (Post-Storm) This is the first phase of recovery. Time period where an initial assessment <br /> and prioritization of the emergency situation takes place. <br /> Recovery(Post-Storm) This is the second phase of recovery. Indian River County officials <br /> coordinate the repair of the public infrastructure and will focus on activities <br /> that will return the community to normal. <br /> Mitigation (Post-Storm) This is the final phase of recovery. Indian River County officials will continue <br /> its campaign to mitigate future storm losses. <br />
