Baird, County Administrator <br />Michael Smykowski, Budget Director <br />FROM: Jennifer Hyde, Purchasing Manage <br />SUBJECT: Declaration of 16th Street Ballfields as Surplus and Authorization for <br />Disposal <br />BACKGROUND <br />Public Discussion Items were brought before the Board on January 12, 2016 and February 2, <br />2016 regarding the condition and value of the County -owned baseball facility located at 1900 <br />16th Street. On February 16, 2016, the Board approved an agreement to terminate the existing <br />lease, effective June 1, 2016. The Recreation Division has no plans to utilize the facility after <br />that date. <br />EVALUATION <br />Staff believes it is in the County's best interest to declare the facility as surplus and dispose of it. <br />The County Administrator sent an initial letter to Dr. Mark Rendell, School Superintendent, <br />dated January 18, 2016 requesting whether the School District had any interest in leasing, <br />purchasing, or exchanging other property for the 16th Street Ballfields. (See Attachment 1). No <br />response was received to this letter. <br />The Assistant County Administrator sent two separate e-mails to the School District Director of <br />Facilities in April 2016 in an effort to ascertain the School District's interest in acquiring the 16th <br />Street Ballfield Complex property. <br />Pursuant to Board direction on April 12, 2016 to dispose of the property, the County <br />Administrator sent another letter (dated April 20, 2106) to the School Superintendent <br />addressing a number of issues, including the Board of County Commissioners' policy direction <br />to proceed with selling the 16th Street Ballfield Complex. It was further noted that staff was in <br />the process of preparing a request for bids on this site. (See Attachment 2). No response was <br />received to this letter. <br />Finally, the County Administrator sent a final letter dated May 4, 2016 to the School <br />Superintendent requesting a written response by close of business on Monday May 9, 2016 to <br />100 <br />
