RESOLUTION NO. 2016- 076 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, <br />ESTABLISHING THE HONORARY POSITION OF INDIAN <br />RIVER COUNTY POET LAUREATE; AND AGREEING THAT <br />THE LAURA (RIDING) JACKSON FOUNDATION, INC. WILL <br />PRESENT INDIVIDUAL(S) QUALIFIED FOR SUCH HONORARY <br />POSITION TO THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY FOR APPOINTMENT. <br />WHEREAS, Laura (Riding) Jackson was a recognized American poet, critic, novelist, essayist <br />and short story writer, who resided in Wabasso, Florida (Indian River County) until her death in 1991; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation, Inc. is a local Section 501(c)(3) not-for- <br />profit organization dedicated to preserving and interpreting the home of Laura (Riding) Jackson and <br />promoting literary programs that nurture passion for the written word; and <br />WHEREAS, the Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation, Inc desires to recognize a citizen of <br />Indian River County who promotes poetry in our community to serve as the honorary Indian River <br />County Poet Laureate; and <br />WHEREAS, the Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation, Inc. will recommend the inaugural poet <br />laureate and thereafter establish a juried process for applications from Indian River County residents <br />who wish to be considered for the honorary Indian River County Poet Laureate position. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA THAT: <br />1. The Indian River County Board of County Commissioners hereby establishes the honorary <br />position of Indian River County Poet Laureate, a four-year term, beginning September 1, 2016; <br />2. The Indian River County Board of County Commissioners agrees to hereby recognize the <br />selection by the Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation, Inc. as the Indian River County Poet <br />Laureate; <br />The foregoing Resolution was offered by Commissioner O'sryan . and seconded <br />by Commissioner and, upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows: <br />Chairman Bob Solari <br />AYE <br />Vice Chairman Joseph E.
