Like many <br />depressed areas, Gifford contains a mix of land uses and a supply of vacant industrial and <br />commercially designated land. Going forward, the county should continue to eliminate <br />substandard housing and maintain code enforcement activity in Gifford. <br />➢ Gifford: Indian River County/City of Vero Beach Enterprise ZefleArea <br />Ifr—From 2005 until the sun -setting of the state's Enterprise Zone enabling legislation on <br />December 31, 2015, Indian River County and the City of Vero Beach jointlyep rated <br />an Enterprise Zone encompassing properties in and around the City of Vero Beach #iunieipal <br />Regional Airport and properties within the Gifford Community. An Enterprise Zone iwas an area <br />designation approved by the state to encourage new economic growth and investment in <br />distressed areas. Although the state sunsetted the enabling <br />a v a uuuo, , <br />legislation at the end of 2015, the Indian River County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) <br />determined that it is important for the County to continue to provide a special economic <br />development incentive in the former Enterprise Zone area consistent with the Gifford <br />Neighborhood Plan Policy that supports such an incentive in the Gifford area On January 12 <br />2016, the BCC approved a resolution to continue to offer a 10% local jobs grant bonus to target <br />industries locating within the newly re -labeled "Enterprise Area" The "Enterprise Area" <br />encompasses the same meoraphic area of the former Enterprise Zone. <br />Oslo <br />The third blighted area needing redevelopment or revitalization is located west of US 1 along <br />Oslo Road in the southern portion of the county. Oslo Road (9th Street, S.W.) is a principal <br />Future Land Use Element 126 <br />
