June 21, 2016
ITEM 14.E.1
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO: Members of the Board of County Commissioners
DATE: June 15, 2016
SUBJECT: Maintenance Issues of Private Culverts Crossing the Public Right -of -Way
FROM: Tim Zorc
Commissioner, District 3
Discussion Item:
Due to the amount of heavy rainfalls Indian River County has experienced in the past
few months, it has come to my attention that there are many culverts that are
experiencing total failures or that are in great need of repair to make them work
properly.
Many of these culverts were constructed as part of private developments, but they cross
the public rights-of-way, often impacting the integrity of the public roads and sidewalks
they lie beneath.
I would like to discuss the means and measures on how to address ways to provide
assistance to maintain the private systems to assure that the public rights-of-way are
not affected by their failure.
255
