PROCLAMATION
<br />HONORING SENATOR THAD ALTMAN
<br />WHEREAS, Senator Thad Altman has lived in east Central Florida for more than fifty years. Senator Altman and his
<br />wife, Mary Pat, have 3 children; and
<br />WHEREAS, Senator Altman began his political career in 1985 serving as a Brevard County Commissioner. During a
<br />Special Election in 2003, Senator Altman was elected to the Florida House of Representatives where he served until
<br />November 2008. Subsequently, Senator Altman was elected to serve in the Florida Senate to represent portions of
<br />Brevard, Orange and Seminole Counties; and
<br />WHEREAS, in 2012, Senator Altman was reelected to serve the newly formed Senate District 16 which includes the
<br />southern half of Brevard County and the northern portion of Indian River County, and
<br />WHEREAS, throughout his decorated tenure as a member of the Florida Senate, Senator Altman has been a
<br />dedicated leader and protector of Florida's service men and women, military veterans, environment, space program and
<br />small businesses, and
<br />WHEREAS, during the past four (4) years S�,,�lor Altman represented Indian River County in the Florida Senate, he
<br />has worked diligently to honor and support the best interests of our community by serving in a number of leadership roles
<br />including, but not limited to, Chairman of the Military Affairs, Space, and Domestic Security Committee (2012-2014),
<br />Chairman of Military and Veterans Affairs, Space and Domestic Security Committee (2014-2016), and Vice Chairman of
<br />the Children, Families, and Elder Affairs Committee (2014-2016); and
<br />WHEREAS, from 2012 to 2014, Senator A,;; -+n also served on the Indian River Lagoon and Lake Okeechobee
<br />Basin Committee which was tasked to investigate policies, spending, and any other governmental activities which may
<br />impact the water management in the Indian River Lagoon and Lake Okeechobee Basin. In an effort to promote, clean
<br />and protect the Indian River Lagoon, Senator Altman successfully fought for and assisted in securing millions of dollars in
<br />funding from the State of Florida; and
<br />WHEREAS, Senator Altman is rightfully honored on this day for his service to Indian River County and to the
<br />residents of District 16. His tireless work on behalf of his constituents is justly acknowledged, and he is hereby
<br />commended and granted best wishes in his future endeavors; and
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, INDIAN RIVER
<br />COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board applauds Senator Thad Altman on his past and future leadership roles, and the
<br />Board wishes to express its appreciation for the dedicated service he has given Indian River County for the last four (4)
<br />years.
