BEIDLER, Director <br />TO: COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR - INDIAN RIVER COUNTY JULY 15, 1992 <br />FROM: HELEN GLENN, CHAIRMAN - BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER MOSQUITO CONTROL DISTRICT <br />RE: INDIAN RIVER COUNTY APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS TO TREAT FELLSMERE <br />AND VERO LAKE ESTATES FOR ADULT MOSQUITOES BETWEEN JULY 22 AND <br />SEPTEMBER 30, 1992. <br />Because of the severity of the recent mosquito problem in western portions of Indian <br />River County, at the request of residents of Fellsmere, Vero Lake Estates and County <br />Commissioner Maggy Bowman, the Indian River Mosquito Control District (IRMCD) Board of <br />Commissioners is requesting that Indian River County fund truck adulticide spraying of Fellsmere <br />and Vero Lake Estates between July 21 and Oct. 1. On Oct. 1, .when IRMCD begins receiving <br />tax proceeds from them, these areas will be included in the District's spray program. To <br />formally present this request, I would appreciate being included on the agenda of the Tuesday, <br />July 21 County Commission meeting. <br />IRMCD is willing to provide this spray service to Fellsmere and Vero Lake Estates <br />residents at our costs which would be $800 for a one time spray. Examining our past records <br />of treatments of areas similar to these provides us an estimate that up to 5 treatments between <br />now and the end of September might be appropriate. This makes for a maximum total estimated <br />cost of $4000. <br />Thank you for consideration of this request. <br />County Administrator Jim Chandler explained that the new <br />district coverage does not go into effect until October 1, 1992, <br />and he recommended allocation of $4,000 from the general fund ,for <br />the spray service to Fellsmere and Vero Lake Estates between now <br />and October 1. <br />E. J. Beidler, Indian River Mosquito Control District <br />Director, came before the Board and indicated that representatives <br />from Fellsmere and Vero Lake Estates were in the audience, and he <br />stated that they all thanked the Board members for their <br />consideration. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bowman, the Board unanimously approved <br />spray service to Fellsmere and Vero Lake Estates <br />between now and October 1, 1992, as recommended by <br />staff. <br />14 <br />
