2. Fittings: <br />All underground fittings shall be either bell and spigot, or mechanical <br />joint. Mechanical joints shall conform to AWWA specification C1I0 <br />(ANSI 21.10-87), or latest revision. All exposed aboveground fittings <br />shall be flanged joint. <br />3. Bell and Spigot Connections: <br />Joints in bell and spigot pipe shall be push -on, mechanical, or restrained <br />joints in accordance with AWWA Standard C-111 (ANSI 21.11-85), or <br />latest revision. Mechanical joint pipe set -screw type retainer glands will <br />not be permitted. <br />4. Flanged Connections: <br />Flanged pipe with screwed -on flanges shall be furnished with long hubs, <br />and the flanges shall be screwed on the threaded end of the pipe in the <br />shop, and the face of the flange and end of pipe refaced together. There <br />shall be no leakage through the pipe threads and the flanges shall be <br />designed to prevent corrosion of the threads from outside. The back of <br />the hub shall be caulked where the hub threads joint with the pipe. <br />5. Valve Box Adjustments: <br />Cost of valve nut extenders shall be included in cost of valve box <br />adjustments where needed. <br />D. Disinfecting Potable Water Pipelines <br />Before being placed in service, all potable water pipelines shall be chlorinated in <br />accordance with the latest edition of AWWA C-651, "Standard Procedure for <br />Disinfecting Water Mains", except that the use of tablets is strictly prohibited. The <br />procedure shall be approved by the Engineer. The location of the chlorination and <br />sampling points will be as specified by the Florida Department of Environmental <br />Protection, Water Distribution System Permit. Taps for chlorination and sampling shall <br />be uncovered and backfilled by the Contractor, as required. <br />SECTION - 02670 FLUSHING TESTING AND DISINFECTING <br />PART 1 - GENERAL <br />1.01 WORK INCLUDED <br />A. Flushing, Pressure Testing, and Disinfection of all piping systems. <br />B. Contractor shall furnish all necessary pumps, hoses, piping, fittings, meters, <br />gauges, chemicals and labor to conduct specified testing. <br />C.
