M. with all members present <br />APPROVAL OF FISCAL YEAR 1992-93 EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE GRANT <br />The Board reviewed memo from Emergency Services Director Doug <br />Wright dated August 19, 1992: <br />TO: Board of County Commissioners <br />THROUGH: James Chandler <br />County Administrator <br />FROM: Doug Wright, Director <br />Department of Emergency Services <br />DATE: August 19, 1992 <br />SUBJECT: Approval of FY 92-93 EMS Grant <br />It is respectfully requested the information contained herein be <br />given formal consideration by the Board of County Commissioners at <br />the next scheduled meeting. - <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS <br />The Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services, Office of <br />Emergency Medical Services (EMS), is authorized by Chapter 401, <br />Part II, Florida Statutes, to distribute county grant funds. The <br />funds are then made available to eligible county governments to <br />improve and expand their pre -hospital emergency medical services. <br />The grant program is an innovative process which enables EMS <br />agencies to enhance EMS systems through the Board of County <br />Commissioners. The EMS Grant has been prepared describing program <br />needs and proposing grant objectives as well as time frames for <br />completion. <br />Although submission of the grant is being undertaken, the State EMS <br />Office has advised staff that the grant funds may be fully <br />distributed, partially distributed, or not distributed at all to <br />county governments. The governing factor is dependant upon the <br />financial status of the State after October 1, 1992, and actions of <br />the Governor. The grant application is being submitted in the hope <br />that the funds will be released to local governments and having the <br />application on file will assure Indian River County of its <br />allocation if'the funds are distributed. <br />ALTERNATIVES AND ANALYSIS <br />The county grant funds are derived from surcharges on various <br />traffic violations. Funding in the amount of $35,358.03 has been <br />allocated to Indian River County for FY 92-93. The grant funds <br />will be utilized as indicated in the grant for equipment and <br />services to improve and expand the Advanced Life Support EMS pre- <br />hospital system. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends approval of the FY 92-93 EMS Grant and resolution <br />to purchase the equipment and services as noted in attachments. <br />Staff- further recommends that the Board of County Commissioners <br />authorize the Chairman to execute the necessary documents to obtain <br />funds from -HRS in the amount of $35,358.03 and authorize budget <br />amendments as required to receive and expend the grant funds. <br />45 <br />BOOK 87 FAGS 450 <br />m <br />
