Major <br />increases included: $11.2 million in public safety expenses mainly due to the purchase of new <br />emergency services vehicles ($1.9 million), allocation of pension expense ($3.7 million) and <br />increase in salaries and benefits ($4.5 million). <br />• Governmental activities expenses were charged $4.8 million for their related share of overall <br />pension expense as calculated by the Florida Retirement System. The increase in expense was <br />allocated to the following functions: general government $0.5 million, public safety $3.7 million, <br />physical environment $0.01 million, transportation $0.2 million, economic environment $0.04 <br />million, human services $0.01 million, culture and recreation $0.2 million, and court related $0.2 <br />million. <br />12 <br />
