Fonvielle, Recycling Education and Marketing Coordinator, Solid Waste <br />Disposal District <br />Quarterly Recycling Update - January 2017 <br />PUBUC PRESENTATION: <br />When the single stream recycling program began in October 2015, the month-to-month recycling tonnages were <br />32.0% — 76.4% higher than those the previous year under dual stream recycling. Now, Indian River County has entered <br />the second year of single stream recycling and tonnages are comparable or greater than those in FY15/16. <br />The quarterly summary is as follows: <br />Month <br />FY2015/16 <br />Tonnages <br />FY2016/17 <br />Tonnages <br />% Change <br />October <br />1,278 <br />1,554 <br />21.5% <br />November <br />1,309 <br />1,861 <br />42.2% <br />December <br />1,851 <br />1,786 <br />-3.5% <br />SWDD staff continues to encourage participation in the recycling program using print and radio advertising campaigns, <br />presentations, landfill tours and one on one interactions with county residents. We have also finished filming a 30 - <br />second video advertisement that will air on Comcast Cable beginning in February 2017. <br />On January 21, 2017, SWDD and Waste Management will co -host a joint Electronics (e -waste) and Household <br />Hazardous Waste (HHW) recycling event, which will be open to all residents of Indian River County. The event will <br />take place from 9 am to 12 pm at the North County Pool Parking lot at 9450 CR 512 in Sebastian. Residents who <br />attend the event can enter a raffle for a laptop that has been generously donated by the e -waste vendor, NWI <br />Recycling. <br />@BCL@7405E69E Page —1 — <br />P1 <br />
