PROCLAMATION S� <br /> DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 19 -25, 2017, <br /> AS THROUGH WITH CHEW WEEK <br /> WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Health's Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida and QuitDoc <br /> Foundation are leaders in tobacco prevention and cessation efforts; and, <br /> WHEREAS, using smokeless tobacco can lead to nicotine addiction and dependence; and, <br /> WHEREAS, smokeless tobacco products like chew and dip can contain more nicotine that <br /> cigarettes; and <br /> WHEREAS, smokeless tobacco users have an 80 percent higher risk of oral cancer; and, <br /> i <br /> WHEREAS, youth use of smokeless tobacco has fluctuated but has not decreased compared to a <br /> decade ago; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Indian River County's rate of youth using smokeless tobacco of 3.2% is higher than <br /> the State's smokeless use rate of 2.2; and highest youth rates are in rural areas; and, <br /> WHEREAS, once adolescents start using one tobacco product, they are more likely to experiment <br /> with others; and <br /> WHEREAS, Tobacco Free Florida's Quit Your Way can double a tobacco user's chances of <br /> successfully quitting. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, <br /> INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the week of February 19 — 25, 2017 be recognized as <br /> Through with Chew Week in Indian River County. <br /> Adopted this 21st day of February, 2017.
