Board of County Commissioners <br />Meeting Minutes - Final May 9, 2017 <br />John Frazier, Recreation; Katie Marlow, North County Aquatic Center; Dane <br />McDonald, Recreation; Tonya Huff, IRC Main Library; John Clark, Sandridge; <br />Holden Kriss, Shooting Range; Lisa Benito, Human Services; and Sheila Votzi, <br />General Services; all of whom were present to represent those who serve as public <br />service employees at all levels of government in the County. <br />Chairman Flescher read and presented the Proclamation, and each of the <br />Commissioners individually expressed their appreciation to those in attendance for <br />their hard work and efforts to provide the best quality of life for the citizens in <br />Indian River County. <br />5.B. 17-0434 Presentation of Proclamation Designating the Week of May 7 through May <br />13, 2017, as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week <br />Recommended Action: Read and Presented. <br />Attachments: Proclamation <br />Vice Chairman O'Bryan read and presented the Proclamation to Indian River <br />County Sheriff Deryl Loar, who was accompanied by several members of support <br />staff and corrections personnel. <br />Sheriff Loar detailed the daily operations and responsibilities of correctional <br />personnel at the Sheriffs office, and the dangers that accompany the demanding <br />profession of those responsible for the custody, safety, and well-being of the <br />inmates in Indian River County. <br />5.C. 17-0507 Presentation of Proclamation Designating the Week of May 21st - May 27th, <br />2017, as Emergency Medical Services Week <br />Recommended Action: Read and Presented. <br />Attachments: Proclamation <br />Commissioner Zorc read and presented the Proclamation to Emergency Services <br />Battalion Chief Cory Richter. <br />Chief Richter expressed appreciation for the Proclamation and described <br />Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as no longer being simply the transport of an <br />ill or injured person to the hospital, but as an extension of the hospital emergency <br />room with the ability to provide quality, lifesaving care while en route to the <br />hospital. <br />Indian River County Florida Page 2 <br />
