!CareerSource EMPLOYMENT REPORT <br /># RESEARCH COAST April 21st, 2017 <br />The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Research Coast region (Indian River, Martin, <br />and St. Lucie counties) was 4.6 percent in March 2017. This rate was 0.6 percentage <br />point lower than the region's year ago rate of 5.2 percent. <br />Out of a labor force of 275,568 there were 12,782 unemployed residents in the region. <br />ST. LUCIE MARTIN INDIAN RIVER <br />COUNTY COUNTY COUNTY <br />4.7% 4.2% 4.9% <br />`The Port St. Lucie MSA accounted for the majority of the nonagricultural employment in the CareerSource Research Coast area, <br />accounting for 147,000 jobs in March 2017, an increase of 3,900 jobs from March 2016. The education and health services (+6.3 <br />percent); manufacturing (+6.0 percent); professional and business services (+4.3 percent); and leisure and hospitality (+Z.6 <br />percent) industries grew faster in the metro area than the statewide over the year. The industries gaining in jobs over the year <br />were: education and health services (+1,600 jobs); professional and business services (+700 jobs); trade, transportation, and <br />utilities (+500 jobs); leisure and hospitality (+500 jobs); mining, logging, and construction (+400 jobs); manufacturing (+400 jobs); <br />financial activities (+100 jobs); and other services (+100 jobs). The government (-400 jobs) industry lost jobs over the year. <br />The information industry was unchanged over the year. <br />Nonagricultural employment in the Sebastian -Vero Beach MSA was 52,500, an increase of 1,900 jobs over the year. The Sebastian - <br />Vero Beach MSA had the fastest annual job growth rate compared to all the metro areas in the state in education and health <br />services (+6.9 percent) in March 2017. The industries gaining in jobs over the year were: education and health services (+700 jobs); <br />leisure and hospitality (+400 jobs); mining, logging, and construction (+300 jobs); professional and business services (+300 jobs); <br />manufacturing (+100 jobs); other services (+100 jobs) and government (+100 jobs).
