SECTION 01541 <br />PROTECTION OF THE WORK AND PROPERTY <br />1.3 TREE AND PLANT PROTECTION <br />A. Protect existing trees, shrubs and plants on or adjacent to the site that are <br />shown or designated to remain in place against unnecessary cutting, breaking or <br />skinning of trunk, branches, bark or roots. <br />B. Do not store or park materials or equipment within the drip line of trees that are <br />to remain. <br />C. Install temporary fences or barricades to protect trees and plants in areas <br />subject to traffic. <br />D. Fires shall not be permitted under or adjacent to trees and plants. <br />E. Within the limits of the Work, water trees and plants that are to remain, in order <br />to maintain their health during construction operations. <br />F. Cover all exposed roots with burlap and keep it continuously wet. Cover all <br />exposed roots with earth as soon as possible. Protect root systems from <br />mechanical damage and damage by erosion, flooding, run-off or noxious <br />materials in solution. <br />G. If branches or trunks are damaged, prune branches immediately and protect the <br />cut or damaged areas with emulsified asphalt compounded specifically for <br />horticultural use. <br />H. Remove all damaged trees and plants that die or suffer permanent injury and <br />replace them with a specimen of equal or better quality. <br />I. Coordinate Work in this Section with requirements of other sections herein. <br />1.4 PROTECTION OF IRRIGATION <br />The CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for maintaining in good condition all <br />irrigation systems within the easements, which could be damaged by <br />construction activities. The CONTRACTOR shall repair any irrigation systems <br />damaged by construction activities within two (2) days. Irrigation systems <br />partially within the right-of-way of 15th Avenue and all intersecting side streets <br />within project limits may be cut off and capped or connected to same system to <br />maintain functionality.
