sD <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> DESIGNATING JUNE 19TH THROUGH JUNE 25TH , 2017 <br /> AS AMATEUR RADIO WEEK <br /> WHEREAS, Indian River County is home to more than 500 licensed radio amateurs; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Amateur Radio Emergency Service of Indian River County provided valuable <br /> communication assistance to five American Red Cross Shelters, two area hospitals, and the Humane <br /> Society during Hurricane Matthew in October of 2016; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Indian River County recognizes and appreciates the diligence of these "hams" who <br /> also serve as weather spotters in the Skywarn program of the National Weather Service; and, <br /> WHEREAS, these radio amateurs are always on alert for tornadoes, floods, tropical cyclones, or <br /> any other local emergency, and use their communications skills to assist local and state government <br /> officials; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Indian River County radio amateurs generously donate their time and equipment to <br /> provide communications support to local service clubs, organizations, and charities; and, <br /> WHEREAS, members of the Vero Beach Amateur Radio Club will continue to improve their <br /> communications skills by operating during the twenty-four hour emergency simulation known as 'Field <br /> Day' on June 24-25, 2017. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, <br /> INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that June 19th through June 25th, 2017, be designated as <br /> AMATEUR RADIO WEEK in Indian River County, and the Board calls this observance to the attention <br /> of all our citizens. <br /> Adopted this 13th day of June, 2017.
