sA <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING THE DAY OF JULY 1, 2017, AS HONOR GUARDS DAY <br />WHEREAS, Honor Guards and their families and communities face an increasingly difficult <br />role as they protect and serve the nation and public; Honor Guards of America consist of <br />former and retired military, US Coast Guards, Police, Fire Fighters, Emergency Medical <br />Service (EMS) responders, Chefs and other agency personnel; and, <br />WHEREAS, in 2016, 16 Military, 140 Law Enforcement Officers, 68 Fire Fighters and 15 EMS <br />responders across the nation lost their lives in the line of duty, representing the highest Line Of <br />Duty Deaths in years; and, <br />WHEREAS, the men and women who wear these uniforms understand the dangers of their <br />job, but they heed the call to serve and willingly face those risks every day, in order to create a <br />safe nation and communities for all Americans; and, <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County recognizes and appreciates the sacrifices of Honor Guards <br />and their families and support their efforts to keep Indian River County a safe place to work, <br />live and visit. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the day of July 1, 2017, be <br />designated as Honor Guards Day in Indian River County and the Board encourages all citizen <br />to acknowledge and value the service provided by Honor Guards. <br />Adopted this 20th day of June, 2017.
