Board of County Commissioners Budget Workshop - Final July 12, 2017 <br />He stated that the Board has had conversations with the Sheriff, and suggestions <br />have been made regarding his budget, but that it was not the responsibility of the <br />Board to micro -manage the Sheriffs day-to-day operations. Commissioner Solari <br />mentioned a group called the Taxpayers Association of Indian River County that is <br />made up of County residents that gather on their own time to make the community <br />better, and made the suggestion for Mr. Marsh to form his own committee with <br />other interested citizens of the County. <br />Joe Paladin, President of Black Swan Consulting, spoke highly of the Sheriffs <br />Department and the level of safety that they provide, and expressed his support of <br />the Sheriffs budget. <br />Dr. Miles Conway, representing the South Beach Property Owners Association Inc. <br />(SBOA), spoke about the South Beach property owners and that they contributed <br />three (3) times more property tax dollars per capita than the rest of Indian River <br />County. He explained that SBOA would do everything in its power to preserve and <br />protect the quality of life of its residents, and expressed his support of the Sheriffs <br />budget. He stated that he had no problem with an increase in Ad Valorem if it <br />allowed the Sheriff to do his job properly. <br />AGGREGATE MILLAGE <br />STATE PROPOSED AGGREGATE MILLAGE <br />17-0732 <br />Attachments: Aggregate Millage <br />Administrator Brown announced that the proposed Aggregate Millage rate is <br />5.9901, 0.1552 mils or 2.2% above current, or 8.5% above rollback. <br />RECAP - TOTAL PROPOSED BUDGET AND PROPOSED MILLAGE RATES <br />JASON E. BROWN, COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR <br />Administrator Brown provided the recalculated figures for the proposed increases <br />to the Sheriffs budget and the Senior Resource Association (SRA). He clarified that <br />the Sheriffs recommended budget was $4,794,367, and was increased by $557,633 <br />to the requested $48.5 Million. <br />Indian River County Florida Page 25 <br />
